In reply to Cozzy Ozzy.

I’ve had someone who didn’t know what they were doing copy my work and almost fail the plagiarism check. They said they went to a local private school and probably paid more to be there.

In reply to Cozzy Ozzy.

Yes. there’s no shortage of cheaters and imposters who had different Unimelb entry requirements because they paid more.

In reply to Paula.

Don’t encourage any yank with that stuff. They love the idea of being feared.

Don’t help fobs here. Likely, you won’t see the malevolence until they think they have nothing more to gain from you.

I’m writing this review to inform prospective postgraduate students about UniMelb’s Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs), based on my experience with one course.

When researching postgraduate programs, I prioritised courses that offered CSPs. The difference between a CSP and full fees is financially significant. Given my very high WAM and academic awards, I believed I had a reasonable chance of being considered for a CSP.

I received an offer for an Australian full-fee place, which included the following information about CSPs and their limited availability: “If one is awarded to you, we will notify you by email. In the meantime, you should follow the actions required to accept this offer…”

The offer also stated that it would remain open only while places were still available, which created pressure to accept a full-fee place quickly to secure a spot in the course, despite CSP allocations not yet being known.

As an applicant, I found this process problematic. CSP outcomes appeared uncertain, and there was very little information available information about how CSPs are allocated, how many are available, or how applicants are assessed. This made it hard to realistically evaluate my chances of receiving a CSP.

By comparison, other Australian universities I have dealt with, including other Go8 institutions, use separate and more transparent application processes for CSPs. In those cases, applicants are assessed specifically for CSPs and not full fee places and are clearly informed of the outcome.

At UniMelb, the way CSP availability is presented alongside full-fee offers felt like a honeypot: CSPs are offered as a possibility, but the practical effect is that applicants are encouraged to accept a full-fee place while CSP outcomes remain extremely unlikely. For me – a waste of time.
